Business: Leadership in the information age | The Economist.

Carol Bartz, former CEO of Autodesk and current CEO of Yahoo!, shares her opinions on leadership in the information age.  Its a great look at the changes happening in Management Thinking as ubiquitous information becomes more of a burden than an asset.  The best of the best Leaders, will be those who know how to cut through vast amounts of information to make clear decisions about the direction of their businesses.  In my opinion, this article highlights the coming importance of Information Architecture and the change of their role within organizations, as she describes one of the obligations of executives is “to identify and mentor thought leaders.”  These are  “high potential employees…who, though perhaps not the best managers, have the ability to digest and interpret information for others.”    I couldn’t agree more!

Yes, this is clearly the direction all leadership must be taking. A friend of mine once said one of the most difficult things about modern society is specialization. We continue to know more and more about less and less. That is everyone has become so narrowed in on the on their particular realm of expertise without sight of how it relates to the whole. I too am excited for this interdisciplinary age where those people who are are willing to be taught by many will bring everyone to a new understanding.
