AI is no longer a futuristic concept—it’s quietly shaping outcomes behind the scenes.
Recently, I was honored to give a talk on the impact of AI in healthcare for AI Day SF, sponsored by the Internet Society. In this video, I explore how artificial intelligence is moving beyond simple automation to predict human intentions and influence decisions with remarkable precision.
Take CVS Health, for example. Their predictive analytics identified 85% of patients likely to skip medications before it happened, enabling timely interventions that improved health outcomes. But with great power comes great responsibility. The United Healthcare case from 2023 shows the dark side, where AI-driven claims denials prioritized profits over patients, triggering federal investigations.
Yet, AI’s potential for good shines through at places like the Mayo Clinic, where predictive algorithms have reduced hospital readmissions by 40%. PipCare’s AI-assisted surgical coordination has cut complications by 35% while keeping human caregivers at the helm.
The question isn’t whether AI will transform healthcare—it already has. The real question is: toward what purpose? AI mirrors the values we program into it. When guided by profit alone, it can cause harm. But when aligned with an immutable mission—to heal, to serve—it becomes an invisible hand, amplifying the best of human care.
This video challenges leaders to define that mission clearly. Because AI will accelerate us toward whatever goals we set.
Let’s ensure those goals reflect the true spirit of healthcare: a mission to heal.
